After five days of commemorating donors and celebrating recipients, the 2016 Transplant Games of America is officially in the books! The Games brought extensive local and national attention to the cause of organ donation and transplantation and allowed for thousands of recipients, donor families and supporters to gather as one harmonious group.
The Games were the biggest in the event’s history with 6,000 registered participants from across the United States. With over 20 sports and dozens of ancillary events and programs, the 2016 Games featured non-stop action, mission moments and opportunities to compete, celebrate and commemorate!
A breath-taking Opening Ceremony at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium, Donor Tribute event and rocking Closing Ceremony highlighted the ancillary events.
Lifebanc’s annual Gift of Life Walk & Run (5K & 10K) served as both the official walk & run event of the Games and be located in the hub of the games. The Gift of Life Walk & Run took place Saturday, June 11 and featured almost 1,500 Games participants, general public and community members.
A special thank you to the hundreds of volunteers that helped make the event a success and to our local partners at the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, Eversight Ohio, University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic.
Lifebanc is leading our nation, our state and our city by working with partner organizations to host the 2016 Transplant Games of America. Lifebanc will continue the legacy of pursuing a future when the decision to donate is an honor and everyone waiting receives a transplant.
