Social Worker and Counselor CEU Workshops for 2017

Death and Bereavement Across Cultures - June 12, 2017

As counselors and social workers we are ethically required to have knowledge of an individual's physical, social, educational, and spiritual existence. The expressions of grief and the needs that emerge vary widely from one to another and are subject to past experiences, cultural expectations, personal beliefs, and relationships. An individual's identity comes from a sense of personal uniqueness; solidarity with group ideals; continuity with the past, present and future; and from the culture by which an individual is raised or adopted. This workshop will explore death and bereavement rituals and beliefs of major world religions, explain their psychological and historical context, show how customs change over time and what implications may be for the future. When the workshop concludes participants should have a sense of the richness of mourning traditions around the world.

Post Traumatic Growth In Clinical Practice – Hope on The Other Side of Trauma – September 11, 2017

Most survivors of trauma can suffer for months, even years. But recently, psychologists have discovered that PTSD, or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, is only a piece of the whole experience. With the right circumstances and proper support, many trauma survivors also benefit after a terrible experience. They emerge stronger, more focused, and with a new perspective on their future. This workshop will help clinicians learn how to assess posttraumatic growth, how to address it in treatment, and have a basic grasp of the ways the changes they’re promoting will be received in various cultural contexts.
