The Facts of Life

Currently, more than 116,000 people in the United States are waiting for organ transplants.  A million more suffer with conditions that can be successfully treated with donated corneas or Tissue.

There are 1,774 men, women and children, living right here in NE Ohio, on the national waiting list. 

1,306 Waiting for a Kidney
   235 Waiting for a Liver
     26 Waiting for a Pancreas
     59 Waiting for a Kidney/Pancreas
   106 Waiting for a Heart
   115 Waiting for a Lung
      2 Waiting for a Heart/Lung
      6 Waiting for Intestine

 

Every 10 minutes a new name is added to the national waiting list.  On average, 18 people in the U.S. will die today because an organ isn't available in time. One organ donor can save eight lives, while one tissue donor can enhance the lives of more than 50 people.
