The BMV:
Saving lives and making a
difference on the front lines!
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles is often the place where people are asked for the first time if they want to be a registered organ, eye and tissue donor. The staff at the BMV agencies is the key to our success in saving lives. Without their involvement and commitment to ask the question to their customers, LifeBanc could not continue to save and heal the lives that we do through transplantation.
The Ohio Donor Registry serves as the vital link between donors and recipients. Since 2002, of those who designate their decision to be a registered organ and tissue donor, more than 94 percent say “yes” at the BMV counter while renewing or receiving their driver license or state I.D. card.
Thousands of men, women and children have been given a second chance at life because of the BMV Deputy Registrar staff. We appreciate the dedication of the BMV staff for registering Ohioans to be organ, eye and tissue donors and look forward to continuing and enhancing our strong partnership in the future.
LifeBanc partners with 73 agencies in Northeast Ohio and 75 percent saw an increase in their organ and tissue donation registration rates in 2009.
Stop in to your local license agency and say “thank you” for asking the life-saving question.
An individual may register their donation decision any of the four ways:
- Say “Yes” to be a registered organ, eye and tissue donor when asked at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles when renewing your driver license or state I.D. card
- Register online
- Fill out and return an Ohio Donor Registry Enrollment brochure.
- Put your decision in your living will.

Additionally, Ohioans can show their support for organ and tissue donation by purchasing a Donate License plate, which is available for purchase at any Bureau of Motor Vehicles agency or by logging on to www.oplates.com
