When to Call LifeBanc

Please make that OneCall for Life immediately to 800-558-LIFE (5433) if any of the following occur:

  • You answer YES to ANY of the questions below
  • A physician plans a DNR discussion with the family of a potential organ donor
  • There are plans to withdraw support of a potential organ donor

Referrals to LifeBanc should be made within one hour of meeting these clinical triggers:

  1. Is the patient mechanically ventilated?


  2. Does the patient have a neuro injury (Anoxia, CVA or Trauma, etc.)?


  3. Does the patient have a Glascow Coma Scale (GCS) equal to or less than five (≤5) OR the absence of two of the following brain stem reflexes?

    • Pupillary response
    • Corneal reflex
    • Cough
    • Gag
    • Response to pain
    • Respiration
    • Doll's eyes
    • Cold caloric

       

Does the patient have a pediatric verbal score (V-score) of 1 (unresponsive)?

Referrals to LifeBanc should be made within one hour of meeting these clinical triggers.
