My name is Erin Roush and I’m an Outreach Coordinator with the Transplant Institute at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. I’m also the team captain for this year’s Gift of Life Walk & Run UH Transplant Walk & Run Team! The GOLWR is a great event that brings together both transplant recipients and donor families from all over the area to celebrate the Gift of Life.
University Hospitals Transplant Institute is once again very excited to support the Gift of Life Walk & Run both as a sponsor and a team. This year we partnered with Lifebanc to host one of the Team Captain Kick-Off events at our Transplant Institute Education & Evaluation Center in Akron. It was a great morning filled with information for walkers & runners as well as inspiring stories about donation & transplantation.
As the team captain I’ve been busy working with my fellow Outreach Coordinator, Jess Hissem, to begin getting everything ready for the “big day” August 13th. We’re very excited to be part of the Gift of Life Pavilion and have been preparing by ordering our great giveaway items (make sure you stop by!) and soliciting volunteers throughout the hospital to help out. Several weeks ago I talked with the nurses that treat our patients while there in the hospital on Tower 9 and gave them information about the Walk & Run. They were all very excited to come be a part of this great event. Tomorrow morning I’ll be talking with the nurses from our NICU and giving them information about the Walk & Run as well. We’re spreading the word about the Gift of Life Walk & Run far and wide throughout the entire hospital system!
I’m also a member of the Gift of Life Walk & Run planning committee and we’ve been getting everything ready from water to t-shirts, registration to the kids area, the run course to the tents, so we can welcome our guests. It really does take a village to make everything happen and I’ve been very lucky to work with such a great and inspiring group of people! Everyone has their own special story of how transplantation or donation has touched their lives. Mine is simple…I love my job and I’m blessed to be able to help the patients we serve. I can’t wait to see ya’ll on August 13th at Blossom!
