| Recipients and donor families have a powerful story to share which can impact organ and tissue donation. Public education has been a priority in Northeast Ohio since the very first efforts in organ donation and procurement in 1969. Volunteers, predominantly transplant recipients and donor family members, have been an integral part of this education process. The formal LifePreserver Volunteer Program was developed in 1996. Not only has it proven to be an extremely effective way of educating the public and promoting organ and tissue donation, use of volunteers has increased significantly the numbers of programs we can provide and people we can reach. |

Ongoing communication, in the form of newsletters, updates, telephone and email contacts, and in-person meetings, is a vital part of the program. Both formal and informal appreciation and recognition are also provided, including an annual appreciation event and awards program.
