LifeBanc Position Statement on LifeSharers

Though there is a common interest between LifeBanc and LifeSharers to increase the number of organ donors, LifeBanc supports the fair and equitable organ allocation system created by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). LifeBanc works closely with families to help them carry out the donation wishes of their loved ones. Precious time may be wasted and lives lost while tracking down a potential recipient in a group that is not listed and may not meet medical criteria. Additionally, LifeBanc educates Ohioans to become registered organ and tissue donors.

Neither LifeBanc nor UNOS endorse the activities of the LifeSharers organization to donate organs to other LifeSharers members. LifeBanc feels that this interferes with the UNOS organ allocation system that was designed to ensure that those with the most critical need receive the transplants to save their lives.
