| The need is urgent. In Ohio alone, nearly 3,000 people are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant at any given time. Hundreds more are in need of eye and tissue donations to improve their quality of life. And yet, only about half of Ohioans age 16 and older are registered as organ and tissue donors at the times of their deaths. Sadly, this means that one Ohioan dies every other day waiting for a transplant. The “Donate. Save 8. Do It Now!” donor registration campaign, sponsored by Donate Life Ohio and the Second Chance Trust Fund, is being conducted in companies across the state to save lives by registering more organ and tissue donors. People are being asked to register as donors online at doitnowohio.org then reach out to eight additional friends and family members, asking them to do the same. “The number eight is a very big part of the program,” said Gordon Bowen, LifeBanc, Chief Executive Officer. "Each organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people through organ donation, and heal up to 50 more people through tissue and eye donation. One morning we brought in V-8 juice for everyone in the office to help remind them of how important each registered donor is.” Rarely does something of such minimal effort have such enormous impact. Donate Life Ohio encourages you to register as a donor and to learn more about organ and tissue donation by visiting doitnowohio.org. It is so easy for your company to implement this program.
